One reason that weight training can be better than cardio for losing weight is that it tears down lots of muscle fibers. Now when you break down the muscles in your body, the body needs to repair itself and build more muscle. During this repairing sequence, your body is burning a lot more calories ( which means your metabolism is way up there).
Your body hasĀ to repair itself after cardio too, but it’s only repairing itself for about 2-3 hours after the workout. For weight training, it takes at least 1 day (sometimes 3) to repair muscles completely and that means that your body’s metabolism is on over-drive for a whole day.
